Who We Help

The Epiphany of the Lord Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul provides temporary, emergency assistance to area residents in need.  In addition, we attempt to ascertain and, hopefully, affect the cause of a person’s need.  An important goal in working with the families we encounter is to help them achieve self-sufficiency.  Focusing on the human dignity of every individual we meet, we do not discriminate with regard to race, creed, national origin, or marital status.  Rather, we strive to see the face of Christ in all who call upon us.

How We Help

Needs, as well as the assistance we offer, can take many forms.  Job loss, underemployment, illness, inability to collect child support, or an unexpected expense can cause great financial and emotional hardship.  Financial help with rent or mortgage payments, utility bills and other necessities is one way in we assist families.  In addition to maintaining a small food pantry at Epiphany, we also provide vouchers to purchase food or gas at area establishments.  Referrals to other organizations or to individuals better suited to meet a need, such as employment or family counseling, is another service we provide.  And, at times, just being there to offer a smile and an encouraging word is a comfort.

Emphasis is placed on person to person contact with those we assist.  Whenever possible, we visit with families in the comfort and security of their own homes.

Funding for our conference is provided primarily through the “purple” St. Vincent de Paul envelope in the monthly church envelope package.  Other funding comes from fund raising events, such as the Ladies Guild annual style show luncheon.  We also work closely with other organizations and agencies that provide assistance to ensure that appropriate help is obtained when needed.

Who We Are

All our activities are performed by volunteers.  We do interviews at our office in the Family Center during the day on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, as well during the evening on Monday and Wednesday.  Our members sign up for the days they are available.  We also do home visits when appropriate.  Regular meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and the third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
